The majority of us might have already toasted in the new year, but for some, the time to celebrate has yet to come! This is because, in Asian culture, the new year is based on the cycles of the moon, which means the date changes every year but typically falls somewhere between the 21st of January and the 20th of February. This year, Chinese New Year will fall on the 1st of February and will observe the transition of the Year of the Ox to the Year of the Tiger.
It’s an amazing celebration that’s full of unique traditions and is one that our Hog Roast Singleton team so rarely gets to be involved in. So when Ian and his wife, Vivian, asked if we would be free to help them with their upcoming Lunar New Year party on the 1st of next month, our team couldn’t say yes fast enough.
Wanting everything to be perfect for the couple and their 30 guests, our catering manager, Matt, spent a while going over each of our catering plans with the pair and told them all about our customisable and bespoke menu options. The idea of a menu tailored to their specifications sounded perfect to Ian and Vivian, who, after taking some time to think things over, formed a unique spread that will start with chicken satay skewers and roasted duck canapés served with authentic spring rolls, ginger wraps and HoiSin sauce, followed by a choice of spit-roasted free-range pork with homemade stuffing, applesauce and crackling or whole-roasted salmon dressed in fresh veg. For sides, the couple has asked for extra spring rolls to be served (as these represent wealth in Asian culture and are a popular Lunar New Year food), gourmet coleslaw and garden-fresh salads. To end the feast, Hog Roast Singleton will serve vacherins of strawberries with passion fruit cream and rich chocolate torte with a light and crunchy base.
Everyone at Hog Roast Singleton is really looking forward to this event, and we have high hopes that Ian, Vivian and their guests will be thrilled with the delicious feast that we have in store for them!
