When they said it would snow boy did it snow! But were determined here at Hog Roast Hartlip that we would reach our customers and we did so it was a hard week but worth it.
We were catering for a birthday party last week and we woke up to a blanket of snow. The client rang us first thing panicking in case we couldn’t make it but we had already left an hour before to make sure we did. The journey was slow and hectic but we got there on time and the hardest part was unpacking the food and machine from the van in deep snow.
The venue was a church hall and we were catering for 100 guests with our Hog Roast Hartlip. We placed a pig on the machine and prepared the skin to make crackling as the meat cooked we began to make the sides we chopped lots of vegetables and made colourful salads and dips and then went onto make some creamy coleslaw. We chopped some potatoes into wedges and set them aside to cook last thing. Then it was time to unpack all the freshly baked food we placed plates of quiche, Scotch egg and mini cheese and onion pasties on the table and some soft fresh bread buns all that we had baked first thing.
The lady was worried that some of the guests might get stranded with the weather and not make is but she had no need to worry as everyone turned up. The relief on her face was priceless and she eventually relaxed as she looked at the food and said over and over how ‘amazing!’ it looked. The crackling was crunchy and so delicious the guests were telling us they had never tasted anything like this before. The pork was juicy and so tender and cut like butter the guests helped themselves to the sides and all had a lovely day. As we left we were thanked again and we were told we had saved the day! But it wasn’t a problem at all.
