50th Birthday Celebrations with a Hog Roast in Hamstreet.

For Bill’s 50th birthday party, his partner Millie arranged for us to cook a hog roast in Hamstreet in their back garden over the weekend. It was a bit of a grey day, with clouds looming overhead and it even looked like rain, but no matter the weather, we’re happy to say that you can still enjoy a spit or hog roast. For outdoors cooking, we can provide a marquee or a gazebo, depending on the size of your event, and we can even use our hog roast machines inside if needed, as long as there’s ventilation and space.

On Saturday, I arrived in the morning and set up the gazebo on the grass in the back garden. It got quite breezy and started to rain, so Millie and Bill asked me about their options in case it was still bad weather once the guests arrived. I suggested moving the gazebo and equipment next to the conservatory instead, on the patio, and having the conservatory doors open so that everyone could get to the food without even going outdoors. The couple agreed and it put their minds at ease once I had moved everything and began to prepare the hog ready for roasting for a few hours.

For this fairly small family party, I cooked a small pig without its head, as is very popular these days. After cooking in its own juices it was nice and moist, with lots of crispy, salty crackling all over. The couple had also asked us to provide bread so that guests could enjoy pork sandwiches, as well as some salad. Our ‘pig in a bun’, as we call it, is loved by many and involves freshly cut pork slices and yummy pieces of crackling in bread rolls, topped with apple sauce, stuffing and your choice of condiments. I sliced the rolls and prepared the extra dishes, including a lovely, spicy coleslaw and a classic mixed summer salad, which had lots of green leaves, bright red tomatoes and sweet peppers.

The guests arrived and were greeted with thunder and lashings of rain, but The Spitting Pig greeted them with lashings of pork, which went down an absolute storm! It was a truly spectacular Hog Roast in Hamstreet!
