Memorial Cricket Tournament In Memory Of A Local Fireman

Devon - pig3Our team at Hog Roast Faversham love to cater all kinds of parties and events but it’s always a great honour to help feed the masses at a charity or fundraising function. Just recently, we were invited to cater a memorial cricket tournament at Faversham Cricket Club, which was held in honour of Faversham fireman Danny Hoxton, who was also vice-captain at the club.

Danny’s wife, Nikki, asked us to cook hog roasts for around 300 guests, in order for us to make our highly popular pigs in buns (which is what we call hog roast rolls). Once we’ve prepared the fresh, local hogs on-site, we cook them slowly but surely for several hours, let them rest a little while and then start slicing away the crispy crackling and carving into the juicy insides. We then fill trays with loads of meat and crackling, fill sliced bread rolls and wraps with bits of both, add some of our own-recipe sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce and then let your guests add their own condiments if wanted.

We also ensure that any guests who can’t or don’t want to eat the meat are covered too, and in this instance, Nikki asked us to cook extra veggie skewers, which can be enjoyed by vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. We can provide all kinds of alternative dishes – just give us advance notice when you make a booking and we will ensure that all of your guests are fed.

On the day of the memorial cricket tournament, Hog Roast Faversham arrived bright and early to start prepping the meat to be roasted and to set up all of our equipment, while the fun day was being prepared too. The cricket tournament itself was made up of four teams, including Faversham Cricket Club of course, as well as Beckenham Reds, Whitechapel Greens and East Greenwich Greens, and the whole event was put together to raise money for several charities in Danny Hoxton’s honour.

Hog Roast Faversham had a great time satisfying everyone’s hunger while watching the tournament, and it was fantastic to see plenty of people enjoying the raffle and bouncy castle as well as our food, at the same time as raising money for charity and honouring a great man.
